Great book! Most of the bad reviews are because of the Christian morals Jay has and includes but it's not the whole book. He quotes scripture, famous quotes, everything. It has really good insight to things men think they can't do because they have to be macho. Be a father to your children and set aside your pride buy this book! They are quick easy chapters! I have a 10 month old and I'm grateful to have it because now I can be an even better dad and make these concepts my own in my own way.Product details

The book has plenty of ideas for ways dads can bond to their children, but the overall idea I think is to find some special things unique to your personality or family or relationship that you can do or give to your kids as a legacy doesn't have to be the exact ideas in the books (like denting a $1200 garage door for an annual tradition of stickball in the drive - not gonna happen at my house, but I get the point and agree with the concept). So yes, I look at it more as a book of concepts and ideas, rather than a "how to" that must be followed exactly - you can pick and choose, or come up with your own ways that you are comfortable with. Think big picture and lasting memories.
Anyhow, bought this for my husband for Father's Day this year and gave it to him while we were on vacation - I was pleasantly surprised that he COULD NOT PUT IT DOWN!! He's not a big reader, but after voicing his desire to connect more with our boys, I found this book - he was reading at least one chapter a day , sometimes more, every single day until he finished the book. Best Father's Day gift ever, and it also doubled as a gift for our sons since I've noticed from time to time my husband is trying out some of the ideas in the book. The boys have responded well to the new attention - this is a gift that absolutely CAN keep on giving - from generation to generation as each child models the ideas with their own children someday. There is also a version for moms I noticed, and that's great, but this one could appeal just as easily to moms who want to be more involved and bonded, as it does to dads.
This is the most amazing book. It really gave me an insight of what is to come and how I can better handle those little and big things my kids will do one day. I made so many highlights and books marks to future reference. I strongly recommend this book to every dad of any age and especially to a soon to be dad. Step up dads and take the plunge into being the best dad you can be for your children who need you to be the best you can be.
Like many family/self-improvement books, you glean some takeaways from this but I found myself skimming a little more than usual. However, the idea of getting a guiness book of world records as a conversation starter or way to spend time engaged with your young teen was interesting. Its 'okay' for sparking ideas.
The spirit of the book is ok, it inspires and that is what really counts. Nevertheless, I do find Mr Payleitner a bit simplistic in some approaches. I would say some chapters lacks more content. Dunno why "52", but gives the impression, sometimes, that the number existed before the text, and then the author had to "fill the space". Some chapters saves the book, the rest are illusional.
My husband seems to like this book. He doesn't read much, but he has been reading this book. He doesn't like books that are preachy or over religious, so this book was a good fit for him. He's even quoted some of the book to me and has implemented a lot of the practices.
Nothing amazing or awe inspiring. This book simply motivates men to become more involved in the lives of their children. One of our societies biggest problems is absentee fathers. This book also teaches fathers to be proactive in tackling possible troublesome areas. A good book, a great book for many new fathers, but do not expect to be taught any secret techniques.
Came across this while shopping for something else. The title caught my eye and the reviews looked great. My husband really doesn't read many books. It's probably been 2 years since he read his last one. I decided it couldn't hurt to buy this as he might get to it some day. I think my husband is a great father, but we all have room for improvement and with being new parents it doesn't hurt to learn more. I placed it on his night stand and after a few nights he said he had started reading it and there are several things he hadn't thought of. He said it really made him think of the time he spent with his dad as a kid. He even got a little emotional. I'm glad I saw this book even though we didn't "need" it. I think it was meant to be that I came across it.
